Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center
Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center became the first and only hospital in the state of Florida to use the NAVIO orthopedic surgical system to help surgeons perform precise and accurate partial knee replacement surgeries using the JOURNEY UNI knee. This technology for partial knee replacements uses a CT-free intra-operative registration, planning and navigation platform to assist the surgeon in building patient-specific surgical plans.
The hospital also began offering new hope for men suffering from erectile dysfunction with the availability of a new penile implant program. Penile implants are an option when other, less invasive treatments for erection problems have not been successful, and further treatment is desired. An inflatable penile prosthesis is an implantable device used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center received the American Heart Association’s 2019 Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus for the fifth straight year. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
The hospital earned a certification of its cardiovascular-pulmonary rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This certification is recognition of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center’s commitment to improving the quality of life of patients by enhancing standards of care.
In addition, the hospital is also now performing procedures with the da Vinci Xi Surgical System. The da Vinci Xi System is designed with the goal of further advancing the technology used in minimally invasive surgery. The System can be used across a spectrum of minimally, invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac, hepatobiliary, and general surgery.
Good Samaritan Medical Center

As way to take the stress and anxiety out of waiting, Good Samaritan Medical Center’s Breast Institute is now offering same day mammography results for patients who undergo a mammogram. As part of a comprehensive approach to cancer care, the Good Samaritan Breast Institute is a full-service breast cancer screening and treatment facility within Good Samaritan Medical Center. The Breast Institute offers low-dose screening and diagnostic mammography, breast cancer surgery, stereotactic biopsy, ultrasound, CT scanning, PET-CT, bone densitometry and support groups for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients or patients with advanced breast cancer.
Good Samaritan Medical Center was also honored by the Agency for Health Care Administration, and the Florida Department of Health, for being one of 19 delivery hospitals in the state of Florida achieving the national Healthy People 2020 recognition. One objective of this program is to reduce cesarean section deliveries for first-time mothers with low-risk pregnancies.
The hospital also became a recipient of Healthgrades 2019 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™. This distinction places Good Samaritan in the top 10 percent of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care of mothers during and after labor and delivery, according to Healthgrades.
West Boca Medical Center
West Boca Medical Center saw a major change at its CEO position appointing George Rizzuto as its new chief executive officer. Rizzuto has more than 35 years of hospital leadership experience as a healthcare executive with extensive experience in hospital operations and finance, as well as public accounting. Rizzuto replaced longtime CEO Mitch Feldman, who retired from West Boca Medical Center and Tenet Healthcare after close to 30 years of service to the organization. Feldman’s strong work ethic, knowledge and determination to deliver high quality care, built a strong and successful foundation at West Boca Medical Center.
The hospital also underwent a nearly $10 million renovation of their operating rooms to expand and enlarge operating room capabilities for modernization, improved efficiency and advanced technological capability. The hospital now has the use of six newly renovated operating rooms which are equipped with the latest technology. In addition, the hospital increased its post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays from six to fifteen, which includes four private PACU rooms.
West Boca Medical Center received a national certification as a Sleep Safe Hospital through the Home Safe and Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County. The award is based on West Boca Medical Center’s commitment to reduce infant sleep-related deaths by establishing a hospital infant safe sleep policy. Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death among infants one month to one year of age, taking the lives of about 2,500 children each year in the United States.
West Boca Medical Center is also a 5-star recipient for Vaginal and C-Section Deliveries as recognized by Healthgrades. This 5-star rating indicates that West Boca Medical Center’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected for Vaginal and C-Section Deliveries.
St. Mary’s Medical Center
St. Mary’s Medical Center & Palm Beach Children’s Hospital announced the appointment of Cynthia McCauley as its new Chief Administrative Officer. In this new role, McCauley is responsible for all strategic growth, operations and finances for both facilities.
St. Mary’s Medical Center also became the first hospital in Palm Beach and Broward county to use the Surpass Streamline Flow Diverter to treat unruptured large and giant wide neck intracranial aneurysms. The device is the second flow diverting stent to gain FDA approval in the U.S.
CARF International (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) awarded St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital accreditation for a period of three years for its comprehensive integrated inpatient rehabilitation program for adults, comprehensive integrated inpatient rehabilitation program for children and adolescents, brain injury specialty program and stroke specialty program.
The hospital was also recognized with the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™ and Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award by Healthgrades for the second year in a row. In fact, the hospital is the only one in Palm Beach County to achieve this. This distinction places St. Mary’s Medical Center in the top 5% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care of mothers during and after labor and delivery according to Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals. In addition to the OBGYN and Labor and Delivery Excellence Awards, St. Mary’s Medical Center has been recognized as a five-star recipient for Vaginal Delivery and C-Section Delivery for the 5th consecutive year.
Delray Medical Center
Delray Medical Center achieved the Healthgrades 2019 America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award for the 17th straight year, since the inception of the award. The distinction places the hospital in the top 1 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades.
The hospital also received the bariatric surgical center accreditation as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
In addition, DMC became the first hospital in South Florida to perform the Trans Carotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) procedure to treat carotid artery disease and help prevent future strokes, is now a center of excellence for this procedure. This recognition by Silk Road Medical designates Delray Medical Center as South Florida’s only TCAR Center of Excellence.
This designation notes that Delray Medical Center is among the top 1% in quality outcomes for TCAR.
Delray Medical Center was also recognized as a High Performing Hospital for 2019-20 by U.S. News & World Report.
The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings, now in their 5th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for common conditions and elective procedures. These ratings extend the U.S. News mission of providing consumers with patient decision support beyond the Best Hospitals rankings, which are geared toward complex specialty care.
Delray Medical Center earned a “High Performing” rating for heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) procedures, in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for heart failure and COPD care.
Delray Medical Center is also among the top 10 percent in the nation for Cranial Neurosurgery and Critical Care, according to a national report by Healthgrades.
