Advances in Healthcare
• Rishi Anand, M.D., Medical Director of the Holy Cross Hospital Electrophysiology Laboratory, performed the first implant of the AngelMed Guardian cardiac monitor and alert system in the state of Florida.
• Holy Cross Hospital became one of the first facilities in South Florida to utilize the MAGNETOM Skyra 3T MRI scanner from Siemens Medical Solutions.
• Holy Cross Hospital became the first healthcare facility in Broward County to offer MAKOplasty® Hip, the latest innovation in total hip replacement surgery performed using the RIO® system.
• Holy Cross Hospital created the Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute to advance the field through high-quality, clinical and basic science, research and education.
Awards and Recognitions
• Catholic Health East, a multi-institutional Catholic health system of which Holy Cross Hospital is a member, recognized the Holy Cross Community Outreach Program with its Daniel F. Russell Innovative Service To Those Who Are Poor Award; Holy Cross operating room clinical assistant Angela Graham with its Richard A. Stebbins Award for her commitment to the homeless; and board of trustees member Keith Koenig with its Excellence in Governance Award.
• Holy Cross Hospital was recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association through the organizations’ Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke (GWTG-Stroke) program with the Gold Plus Award.
• The Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex was designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
• Holy Cross Hospital received the 2008-2011 Patient Safety Award from FMQAI, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Florida, in recognition of the hospital’s unwavering commitment to quality improvement in patient safety.
• Holy Cross Hospital was named among the Best Regional Hospitals in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami Metro Area by the U.S. News & World Report.
A Community Partner
• Holy Cross Hospital distributed specially designed onesies celebrating the City of Fort Lauderdale’s 100th birthday to hundreds of babies born in 2011.
• Holy Cross Hospital began offering a new Pilates for Girls program, which works to educate eighth-grade girls at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic School in Miramar about the importance of physical fitness and its affect on a positive mindset.
• Students at St. Helen Catholic School in Fort Lauderdale who qualify were able to receive free and reduced-price meals thanks to a program with Holy Cross Hospital.
• Holy Cross Hospital offered free immunizations to eligible school age students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
• The Florida Breast Cancer Foundation awarded the Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center at Holy Cross Hospital a $10,000 grant for an educational and awareness campaign targeting Hispanic and African American women and men.
• Holy Cross Hospital received a grant of $25,000 from Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to expand the hospital’s Partners in Breast Health Program.
• Holy Cross Hospital honored Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz as its 2011 Cancer Survivor of the Year at the hospital’s annual Celebration of Life luncheon.
• The 55th annual Holy Cross Hospital Auxiliary Gala at the Signature Grand raised more than $215,800 in support of the new Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex.
• The inaugural Holy Cross Hospital Golf Classic raised $120,000 for the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center at Holy Cross HealthPlex.
• The This One’s For the Girls Luncheon raised $30,000 for the Dorothy Mangurian Comprehensive Women’s Center. During the luncheon, a $750,000 gift from local philanthropist Marti Huizenga and the Huizenga Family Foundation was announced.
