Memorial Hospital Pembroke Medical Staff
10th annual community fundraiser supports year-round sports, fitness and recreational programs for adults with physical disabilities.
Tamarac, Fla. (September 30, 2026) – More than 300 bowlers and community partners came together for the 10th Annual Memorial Rehab Adaptive Sports & Recreation Bowl-A-Thon, raising more than $36,000 to help adults with physical disabilities stay active, compete and connect through year-round adaptive sports and recreation.
Co-hosted by Memorial Foundation and Memorial Rehabilitation Institute at Lucky Strike in Tamarac, the annual fundraiser helps cover equipment, transportation, entry fees and other costs that can create barriers to participation.
“Support from the Bowl-A-Thon gives people with physical disabilities opportunities to stay active, compete and connect with others throughout the year,” said Paolo Stanchi, licensed occupational therapist and Adaptive Sports & Recreation specialist at Memorial Rehabilitation Institute at Memorial Regional Hospital South. “These funds help remove barriers so our athletes can participate in programs and experiences that might otherwise be out of reach.”
Memorial Rehab’s Adaptive Sports & Recreation Program serves individuals with physical disabilities resulting from stroke, spinal cord or brain injury, amputation and other conditions. Year-round activities include wheelchair basketball, bowling, adaptive cycling, water aerobics, sled hockey, picnics, game nights, support groups, fishing, fitness classes and SCUBA.
The program’s three wheelchair basketball teams, including Florida’s only women’s team, compete nationally.
“For the people who take part in these programs, being able to get out, stay active and try something new can make a meaningful difference,” said Kelley Morris, president of the Memorial and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundations. “We are incredibly grateful to our community for coming together year after year to help ensure these programs remain available to the people who rely on them.”
