For Genesis Fuste, RN, BSN, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is helping others recognize their potential. As manager of case management at Memorial Hospital West, she is especially passionate about developing case managers, building their confidence and encouraging them to think creatively when patients face complex barriers.

“I love helping case managers grow in confidence, strengthen their skills and experience those ‘aha’ moments that change how they approach their work,” Fuste said. “When our team grows, our patients benefit.”

Those skills are especially important in cases without a clear solution. Fuste has watched teams collaborate, advocate and persist until they find a path forward for patients and families.

Case managers, she believes, are advocates, educators, problem-solvers and connectors working behind the scenes to make an overwhelming healthcare experience more manageable. Bringing people together and helping both patients and colleagues succeed is what keeps Fuste motivated.
