Susan G. Komen® South Florida issued its Request for Applications (RFA) for the 2015-2016 grants cycle. Winning grantees will receive a portion of funds raised by the Komen South Florida Affiliate through events including its signature Race for the Cure®. Komen South Florida funded over $600,000 to local community programs in the 2014-2015 grants cycle.
Komen South Florida seeks to reduce the burden of breast cancer in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. Aligned with this purpose, the organization seeks applications from organizations in two separate areas: patient care and breast health navigation/education. Nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and educational institutions are eligible for funding and encouraged to apply.
In addition, representatives from Komen South Florida will host an Applicant Workshop on Thursday, October 9, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, 1309 North Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, in the Teleconference Room on the first floor. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and potential grantees are strongly encouraged to attend. During the fiscal year 2013-2014, the South Florida Affiliate funded mammograms for 1798 women within its service area. 35 of these women – women who did not have the resources to pay for their own mammograms – were diagnosed with breast cancers and subsequently received treatment.
“Funding from Komen South Florida for screening services ensures that breast cancer does not go undiagnosed or untreated in the community,” said Dayve Gabbard, Executive Director of the Komen South Florida Affiliate. “In addition, the breast health education and navigation services we fund help women become more empowered in the fight against breast cancer.”
