From my first interaction with the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) College of Business, I am continuously impressed with the caliber, quality, and connection it promotes for students, alumni, faculty, and members of the industry and beyond. My experience started when I was asked to be a guest speaker in 2016 for undergraduate and graduate classes. To this moment, I remember when I was introduced to the senior leadership teams and how they graciously welcomed me as a part of their family. The journey with FAU continues today as I am now an adjunct professor teaching courses in the College’s Executive Master of Health Administration (EMHA) program, where I am part of the second cohort of graduate EMHA students.
Through the collective experiences I have had thus far, I am thoroughly convinced and moved with the integrity and intent of the College’s leadership and astute faculty. While there are many other EMHA Programs across the country, I believe this College’s endeavor is unique and exemplary because of the honest commitment and seasoned versatility of its administrators and faculty who come from diverse and exceptional educational backgrounds. Collegiality and supporting one another is the norm. The ready availability of the staff to guide and assist students is indubitably a hallmark of the College and further represents its forthrightness in carrying out its mission of fostering growth for each student.
Given that these students are working professionals, the manner in which they are respected by the College administration and faculty bears great observation and is a reflection of the true dedication of each student’s success. From the several Open Houses hosted each month to the first day of a cohort’s first class, students are truly welcomed and individually provided every assistance to ensure guaranteed advancement in the Program—a testament of the commitment to ensure the next generation of great health administrators and business leaders.
Two areas are representative of the program’s dynamic environment: (a) Leadership and (b) Accountability. In both these arenas, professors serve as "models and mentors,” where they advocate a team approach to training students. Lessons are taught in a cooperative and coordinated manner ensuring broad exposure and specialized capabilities. Accountability, as an attribute of the faculty and staff, is consistently demonstrated on a daily basis. Students observe and learn the value of interdependence, bonding, and trust as applicable to their cohorts and the industry. The FAU MHA curriculum transcends textbooks and didactics and provides a real-world approach to succeeding in the healthcare realm. I am persuaded that FAU’s College of Business has raised and set the bar for the tone and mark of educational excellence and provides the ability to attain greatness for future leaders in the business of health and management.
