The Maternity Department at Kendall Regional Medical Center celebrates its 10th anniversary with hospital leaders.
The maternity department at Kendall Regional Medical Center opened its doors in 1996 with the goal of delivering babies in a safe and comfortable environment. In those days, there was a staff of just eighteen and the average number of deliveries per month was 30-40. Ten years later, the Department has grown to include a staff of eighty-five and sees an average delivery rate of 180-200 babies per month. An increase in staff isnt the only change. According to the Health Council of South Florida Incorporated, in 2005, the hospital had the fourth largest number of deliveries in Miami Dade County.
Looking toward the future, Kendall Regional plans to create a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within the next two years. This state-of-the-art unit will allow the staff to care for babies who need extra care.
