October 6, 2026 – Vascular surgeon Eva Maria Urrechaga, M.D., has joined Baptist Health Heart & Vascular Care at Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. She specializes in evaluating and treating conditions affecting the arteries and veins through open surgery and minimally invasive endovascular procedures.

Dr. Urrechaga joins Baptist Health after completing a vascular surgery fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Prior to that, she completed a seven-year general surgery residency in Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami, where she served as chief resident of education. During that time, she also completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship in trauma, surgical critical care and burns at the University of Miami.

Dr. Urrechaga has contributed to 28 peer-reviewed publications and has presented her research at regional and national medical meetings. Her vascular research has explored injuries—including traumatic lower-extremity vascular injuries and limb salvage as well as staged endovascular treatment before lower-extremity bypass surgery—,blood clots, surgical outcomes, trauma care and patient safety. .

Dr. Urrechaga earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Her honors include the Dr. “JJ” Karmacharya Award for vascular and endovascular surgery, an American Association for the Surgery of Trauma Research and Education Foundation Scholarship, an Early Career Researchers grant from the University of Miami Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing, and a University of Miami biostatistics funding award. She is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Urrechaga works closely with referring physicians, primary care providers and specialists to coordinate each patient’s care. She believes caring for patients with complex vascular conditions requires looking at the whole person and considering their individual needs.
