January 10, 2023 – A Safe Haven for Newborns has served as Florida’s Safe Haven program for the past 20 years, having developed partnerships among all the hospitals, fire and EMS stations, Florida Department of Children and Families, Florida Department of Health and Ambulances Services, law enforcement, social services, and many other organizations.

We have gained valuable first-hand knowledge and experience among our partners. We recognize the “direct surrender” of a newborn into the hands of trained and compassionate professionals offers the best option and outcomes for both the mother and newborn infant while assuring the anonymity is properly maintained. The direct surrender allows these professionals to offer and provide immediate emergency care as well as to offer the mother a method to receive counseling and supportive services.

368 babies (360 in Florida, seven in other states and one in the country of Honduras) now have a future with their forever families.

Recently the state of Florida approved the A Safe Haven for Newborns license plate, which will create greater awareness in all 67 Florida counties.

A Look Back at 2022

Last year was a busy year for A Safe Haven for Newborns. For openers, we welcomed 13 little souls; they are Mia, Ginnie, Lisa, Roxy, Sasha, Little Frankie, Jimmy, Kirk, Ignatius, West, Clay, Rocky, and Aiden — six girls and eight boys.

Through our 24/7 confidential, multilingual helpline, we connected the expectant mothers with the agencies that offered the services they needed. And we helped others by providing much needed essential baby items.

The Florida Department of Transportation gave us the green light to offer the new A Safe Haven for Newborns specialty license plate that bears our logo. This was a very important achievement as it will allow us to further spread the word about Safe Haven for Newborns and provide another source of income for our mission.

We continue to raise public awareness through our billboards and bus benches that can be seen all around the state; and through the various community outreach programs designed to reach the young people.

After a two year hiatus, we gathered once again in November for our celebration of life gala. It was very heartwarming to be able to thank so many of you for your support in person. The event was also streamed live online for the first time reaching a wider audience. And in May, we had another sold-out golf tournament.

It was a year filled with many blessing.
