Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist David Kenigsberg, M.D., successfully performed an implant of the Current® Plus Implantable Cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), featuring the SJ4 connect system at Broward General Medical Centers Heart Center of Excellence.
The SJ4 connection system reduces the number of connections between the device and the wires (defibrillation leads) that send electrical impulses to the heart, which is intended to enable a streamlined implant procedure. The reduced number of lead connections also lessens the risk of lead-to-can abrasion, a known complication that can occur in patients who have an implantable device. “Simplifying the lead connection process is not only more efficient, but will also improve patient comfort from surgical implant stage all the way through follow-up,” said Kenigsberg, who performed the implant in August. “It reduces lead risks and increases reliability.”
