Lower Keys Medical Center is proud to announce that it has installed the EVOTECH® ECR (Endoscopic Cleaner and Reprocessor) in its Ambulatory Department for same-day surgeries.

This ground breaking technology is the first commercially available system in the U.S. that both cleans and high-level disinfects endoscopes. It is also the first system of its kind that is FDA approved for flushing and brushing flexible endoscopes.

This new system makes endoscope reprocessing (cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing) a totally automated process. It eliminates strenuous brushing, resulting in complete confidence that endoscope reprocessing is safe, fast and consistent each time.

Phyllis Stout, Director of Surgical Services at LKMC said, “Our new system saves valuable time for our medical staff, improves employee and patient safety and prevents infection. It takes away the possibility of human error in cleaning and also keeps a record of the cleaning.”

After a scope procedure is completed, a hands-free foot switch opens the dual basin lids to prevent contamination. An endoscope is loaded into each of the two independent basins of the system. Cleaning occurs using a special detergent, followed by a single-metered dose of a highly concentrated solution which assures high-level disinfection. All of this increases efficiency and frees staff to focus on our high-level of patient care.
