Broward Health Imperial Point (BHIP) is the first and only hospital in Broward County to acquire the latest technology in robotic surgery: the da Vinci® Xi Surgical System. The da Vinci Xi is a tool that utilizes advanced, robotic technologies to assist surgeons during operations. It does not act on its own, but is controlled by a robotic-trained surgeon. The da Vinci Xi can be used across a broad spectrum of minimally-invasive surgical procedures and has been optimized for multi-quadrant surgeries in the areas of gynecology, urology, thoracic, cardiac and general surgery.
Starting in October 2015, Broward Health Imperial Point began using the da Vinci Xi to perform minimally-invasive surgical procedures. Unlike traditional “open” surgery, patients may now experience:

• Less blood loss
• Fewer complications
• Less need for narcotic pain medicine
• A faster recovery
• Smaller incisions for minimal scarring
Among the many new innovative features, the da Vinci Xi has the Firefly™ Fluorescence Imaging Vision System which enables surgeons to use a special video camera and glowing dye to view blood flowing in vessels, and tissue or bile moving through ducts during minimally-invasive surgical procedures. By enabling efficient access throughout the abdomen or chest, the da Vinci Xi expands upon core da Vinci System features, including wristed instruments, 3D-HD visualization, intuitive motion, and an ergonomic design. The surgeon is 100 percent in control of the da Vinci Xi, which translates his/her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The Xi System’s immersive 3D-HD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient.
