Broward Health North to Host 2nd Annual Stroke Symposium

Millions of Americans are affected by stroke each year. In order to stay at the forefront of stroke causes and treatment, Broward Health North (BHN) will host the second annual Florida Stroke Symposium for healthcare professionals on May 2 and 3 at the Embassy Suites in Deerfield Beach.

 

Leading stroke experts representing top medical schools will arrive from across the country to provide interactive presentations, illustrating the most up-to-date identification, evaluation and treatment options for stroke patients.

 

“Last year, we hosted 11 of the nation’s leading experts on stroke causes and treatments,” said Nora Uhrig, director of the BHN Neurological Institute. “The evidence based information shared at this event helps physicians and healthcare professionals stay on top of the latest techniques and best practices for stroke care.”

 

Some of the planned lecture topics include “Stroke Triage and Management – How to Improve Stroke Onset to Needle Time” by William A. Knight IV, M.D., assistant professor of Emergency Medicine & Neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine; “Ethical Issues in Managing Large Strokes” by Kevin N. Sheth, M.D., FAHA, chief, Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology at Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital; “Stroke Imaging” by Tudor G. Jovin, M.D., associate professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery and Director, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for Neuro-endovascular Therapy and President, Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN); “Update on Florida, Puerto Rico Stroke Registry” by Jose Romano, M.D., FAHA, professor of Clinical Neurology at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

 

Jonathan Harris, M.D., neurologist and medical director of BHN’s Comprehensive Stroke Program, is the course director.
