Broward Health Community Health Services (BHCHS) recognized a major milestone on Tuesday, June 18, when it celebrated the 15th anniversary of its Seventh Avenue Family Health Center. The Center is a 50,000-square-foot primary care facility that originally cost $7.6 million when built in 1998. Since opening, the Center has been successful in making primary healthcare more convenient for residents of northwest and central Fort Lauderdale.
“Fifteen years ago, we saw a thousand patients a year. Today, we see hundreds of patients a day,” said Jasmin Shirley, vice president of Broward Health Community Health Services. “We are an oasis of healthcare for the community, from primary healthcare to end-of-life issues.”
While treating more than 19,000 patients a year, Seventh Avenue Family Health Center has become a part of the community it serves. Members of the immediate community serve on a planning committee to provide input into designing available services, and the staff gives health talks at different locations in the community to explain services and how to access them.
The Seventh Avenue Family Health Center features a full service pharmacy, radiology, lab, and a community education classroom as well as exam rooms. Services include adult and pediatric primary care, prenatal care, dental services, social services and an urgent care center.
