Miami Marlins’ Chairman Will Be Recognized With Lobby Art Installation
BOCA RATON, FL – November 7, 2022 – The Chairman and Principal Shareholder of the Miami Marlins, Bruce Sherman and his wife, Cynthia, have made a $1 million gift to Keeping the Promise…The Campaign for Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
The Shermans’ generosity brings the total of seven- and eight-figure donors to Keeping the Promise to 44, and the total dollars raised to more than $239 million toward the campaign’s goal of $250 million. There have been nearly 1,100 gift commitments to the campaign since its inception.

Their gifts, and influence just by the nature of their involvement with such an important venture, is incredibly impactful.”
The Shermans join other philanthropists connected to sport franchises such as the Boston Red Sox and the National Hockey League who made extraordinary gifts to Keeping the Promise. Their gift will be acknowledged with a two-piece art installation entitled “Capella,” which will stand prominently in the hospital lobby.
The Shermans have a rich corporate history dating back many years before his ownership of the Miami Marlins. Bruce came to Naples, FL in 1979 from Queens, NY to work for the Collier Family, longtime landowners throughout the state of Florida and one of the richest American families of that era. He then founded Private Capital Management (PCM) in 1985 as a wealth management firm for the Collier family. Shortly thereafter, PCM began accepting outside investors and by 2005, PCM had $31 billion in assets.
Cynthia is a 1984 Georgetown University Law School alumna and was a partner at Clifford Chance, a global law firm, until her retirement in 2000. She is the founder of the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida in Naples. Both Bruce and Cynthia Sherman are deeply committed to philanthropy and volunteerism. They have both spent time on the board of the Naples Children and Education Foundation, have given generously to Naples Community Hospital Systems, and endowed the Bruce and Cynthia Sherman Professorship of Urology Research and Innovation at New York University. One of their most significant and personal philanthropic commitments is entitled the Sherman Prize, a substantial financial award and public recognition to three exceptional professionals who have dedicated their careers to helping people with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Both of Bruce’s daughters have suffered with the disease for stretches in their lives.

The $250 million Keeping the Promise Campaign is the largest fund-raising initiative in Boca Regional’s history and is supporting its most ambitious period of growth and expansion. The campus redevelopment plans include at the centerpiece, the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower where patients will be welcomed in the inviting new Louis B. and Anne W. Green Lobby with plans for retail, dining, meeting space, a sanctuary, outdoor courtyards and other conveniences for visitors. The new tower features all new surgical suites and all private patient rooms exceeding the latest safety standards for patient care. In the current hospital building, all existing rooms will be converted to private in a comprehensive renovation of all patient units. An expansion of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute is well underway with emphasis on neurovascular/stroke, central nervous system tumors, spine, and epilepsy/seizure disorders. Also included in the plans is the new Toby and Leon Cooperman Medical Arts Pavilion, to be located across the street from the hospital with an outpatient surgery center, physician offices and additional parking. These investments are the initial steps toward an even broader vision for the campus with greater access points and even more specialties.
