For nearly 100 years, the Broward County Medical Association (BCMA) has stood as the unified voice of medicine in our community, advocating for physicians, promoting excellence in patient care, and fostering collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem. As we approach our centennial year in 2026, we are celebrating our legacy and actively redefining our role as a vital healthcare partner for Broward County’s future.
This year has marked an exciting period of renewal and momentum for the BCMA. In October, we hosted The Business of Medicine, Part II, a thought-provoking forum where healthcare professionals and industry experts explored strategies for sustaining private practice and adapting to the ever-evolving financial realities of medicine. The event highlighted one of our key goals: to empower physicians with the knowledge, tools, and partnerships needed to thrive in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
In November, our association was honored to receive the Community Catalyst Award from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. This recognition reflects the BCMA’s growing influence and the collective work of our members to build bridges between the medical community, business leaders, and civic institutions. It affirmed that when physicians engage beyond the walls of their practices, our community benefits.
Just days later, on November 12, BCMA hosted our very first Future of Healthcare Roundtable. I had the privilege of chairing and moderating this discussion, which underscored the importance of collaboration among all sectors of healthcare. The gathering brought together healthcare leaders, educators, and legislators to talk about the future of medicine in Broward County. The conversation touched on everything from physician shortages and access to care, to medical education reform, affordability, and how we can balance the needs of patients, providers, and insurers.
I want to personally thank all of the stakeholders, including our State Representatives, who helped contribute to this monumental event. The BCMA is proud to make this roundtable an annual tradition, creating a space where ideas turn into action and where the healthcare community comes together to shape a healthier future for Broward County. Together, we are charting a path toward a more integrated, equitable, and sustainable system, one that serves patients and supports the professionals who care for them.
Also this year, we published the 2026 Physician Guide for Patients Selecting Medicare Advantage Plans, a physician-driven resource designed to help seniors and their families evaluate their healthcare options during the open enrollment season. By providing clear, accessible guidance on plan performance, physician participation, and patient protections, the guide strengthens our commitment to both physician advocacy and patient education, two sides of the same coin.
As we look ahead, advocacy remains at the heart of everything we do. The BCMA Tallahassee Fly-In, scheduled for December 8-11, will once again provide physicians with the opportunity to meet directly with state legislators and advocate for policies that protect the practice of medicine and enhance patient access to care. Our members’ voices matter, and through our presence in Tallahassee, we ensure that those voices are heard loud and clear.
The next chapter of the BCMA story will be one of innovation, engagement, and partnership. We invite physicians, healthcare organizations, and community stakeholders to join us as we strengthen our collective impact. By continuing working together, we can create a healthcare environment that supports physicians, empowers patients, and uplifts the communities we serve.
