Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA), Chicago, has been granted Magnet® redesignation for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). CTCA Home Office is located in Boca Raton, FL.
After a comprehensive evaluation process that began more than three years ago and following an ANCC Magnet appraiser visit, CTCA® Chicago was notified of the organization’s decision to grant it Magnet redesignation. The announcement was delivered via speaker phone by Donna Havens, PhD, RN, FAAN, Chair of the Commission for the Magnet Recognition Program®, to an exuberant crowd of CTCA Chicago nurses, board members, physicians, staff, and patients who gathered in the main lobby of the hospital to celebrate the proclamation.
“Hospitals with the Magnet designation provide patients and their families with a benchmark to measure the quality of care they can expect to receive,” said Jacklynn Lesniak, MS, BSN, RN, NEA-BC. “Our professional nursing team is empowered to achieve excellence in an atmosphere that embraces the Mother Standard® of care, which is the patient-focused principle upon which CTCA was founded.”
Of the nearly 6,000 hospitals in the United States, slightly more than eight percent are Magnet-recognized/have earned the Magnet designation.

The ANCC honors organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice and adherence to national standards and best practices. A hospital that has been recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program® is one that has met and or exceeded these standards.
According to the ANCC website, independent research shows there are benefits to hospitals that achieve Magnet status, such as attracting and retaining top nursing talent, increased nursing satisfaction, improved patient care, safety and satisfaction and fostering a more collaborative culture throughout the hospital.
