Franciso Alfonso, FNP/ARNP will help build upon existing University Plaza programs

University Plaza Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, part of the Plaza Health Network, welcomes Francisco (Frank) Alfonso as its new director of nursing. University Plaza is located at 724 N.W. 19th Street in Miami, Florida.
Alfonso is a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP/ARNP) who is able to assess, diagnose and treat subacute illness and chronic conditions allowing him to provide a higher level of sub-acute care. In fact, at all six Plaza Health Network centers, ARNPs are part of an on-site interdisciplinary team that is helping to redefine the way care is delivered to patients.

Alfonso, formerly the director of nursing at Plaza Health Network’s Ponce Plaza Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, brings his extensive experience and wealth of knowledge to University Plaza, a facility equipped to provide subacute and critical care as well as rehabilitative services, located in the heart of Miami’s medical district.

“Frank has been an integral member of the leadership team at Plaza Health Network,” said Elaine Bloom, President and CEO. “Through his advanced nursing skills and expertise, I have no doubt that he will elevate the already top-notch care provided to patients at University Plaza.”

Alfonso was a medical doctor in Cuba before coming to the United States.  He has worked in various specialized health care settings such as an emergency room, intensive care unit, and rescue setting making him a top choice to help manage the existing relationship between Plaza Health Network and Jackson Health System/Miami Transplant Institute.  This allows University Plaza to accept clinically complex patients who require a higher level of acuity of care but do not have to be in a hospital setting as they continue their recovery.

In his new role, Alfonso hopes to expand upon this existing collaboration between the health care facilities to care for critically complex patients. University Plaza is located  just east of the Jackson Memorial Hospital complex, allowing JMH doctors and clinical staff ease of visitation and the ability to monitor patients through Plaza Health Network’s telemetry program which provides rapid, real-time remote monitoring of patients.

“We are very pleased to welcome Frank,” said Barbara Yanez-Artiles, University Plaza Administrator. “We know he will help all types of patients, including those benefiting from our excellent rehabilitative physical, occupational, and speech therapies.
