An advanced imaging cardiologist, Dr. Ama Annor appreciates how her specialty enables her to piece together the patient’s story.

“Echocardiograms, cardiac CTs, and MRI all paint a detailed picture of different parts of the heart, enabling us to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease,” said Dr. Annor, who came to Memorial Healthcare System in 2024 following advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship training. “The images also help patients better understand their situation, often empowering and motivating them to make lifestyle changes or take medications.”

A native of Ghana whose parents were healthcare professionals, Dr. Annor says that while a person’s diet, exercise, and whether they smoke are significant determinants of heart health, socioeconomic status and health literacy also play important roles, since social support and knowledge often provide the impetus required to commit to change.
