Two Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Patient Families Advocate for High-Quality
Pediatric Care Provided by Children’s Hospitals Across the Nation

August 18 2020 – Two Nicklaus Children’s Hospital patient families, the Hartrick family and the Coiras family, last week met virtually with U.S. Senators and Representatives to discuss the importance of prioritizing children’s health care as part of the annual Children’s Hospital Association’s Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Week, August 10-14. More than 50 patient families from children’s hospitals across the country raised important issues about the ongoing and essential care provided by children’s hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

“Many children like Tad Hartrick and Mark Coiras rely on access to specialty pediatric care and Medicaid funding to provide the best possible chance at the highest quality of life,” said Matthew A. Love, President and CEO of Nicklaus Children’s Health System, parent organization of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. “We were delighted to work with both families and share their stories. Together, we can help our nation’s children lead the healthiest and most productive lives possible.”

At Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the only freestanding children’s hospital in South Florida, approximately 70 percent of patients rely on access to Medicaid. Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Week gives children’s hospitals and patient families the opportunity to convey how children’s hospitals make a difference.
