June 4, 2020 – The Cleveland Clinic Florida region continues to see an upward trend in the number of patients seeking care after resuming elective surgeries and procedures on May 4.

Like many other patients requiring non-essential medical procedures during the pandemic, renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio had to wait to have surgery due to a state order to postpone non-life threating surgeries and procedures.

When the order was lifted, Fazio did not hesitate to receive the care he needed and returned to Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital for surgery. The Jupiter, Fla. resident stated that he had no reservations about coming to the Cleveland Clinic for his procedure.

“The care was excellent and everyone in the hospital was very gracious and caring,” Fazio said. “The process from check-in to surgery was smooth and efficient. I was in an out in 26 hours and could not have asked for better care.”

Doctors at Cleveland Clinic emphasize the importance of seeking care, whether for acute symptoms or screenings that can detect disease early when it’s most treatable. As Florida continues to navigate the COVID-19 public health crisis, patients are understandably concerned about the potential for exposure to the virus in public settings, including healthcare facilities.

Cleveland Clinic Florida understands those concerns and has taken multiple measures to create the safest environment possible.

Safety measures put in place at all Cleveland Clinic Florida locations to ensure that both patients and caregivers remain safe include temperature checks at all entrances, requiring caregivers and visitors to wear masks, hand sanitizers at various stations throughout facilities, and COVID-19 testing for all patients prior to a procedure.

For Tom Fazio, there was no question as to whether or not to have his procedure.

“I trust Cleveland Clinic,” he said. If it wasn’t safe, they wouldn’t have had me come there.”
