Vero Beach, Fla. March 08, 2023 – Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is pleased to welcome orthopaedic surgeon, Peter Brooks, MD, FRCSC.
After earning his medical degree at University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Brooks completed the Orthopaedic Residency Program at Harvard in Boston, MA. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Total Joint Replacement with Emphasis on Revision Surgery and Allografts at Toronto General Hospital and Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Dr. Brooks was Chief of Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Euclid Hospital in Ohio and Director of the Cleveland Clinic National and International FDA Approved Training Center for Hip Resurfacing.
Dr. Brooks is known for his extensive experience in hip resurfacing, having performed more than 4,600 cases. He has the highest level of experience among physicians in the United States using an FDA-approved device. Dr. Brooks is also among a handful of surgeons worldwide who have this level of experience.
In hip resurfacing, Dr. Brooks trims a small amount of damaged bone and cartilage from the ball and socket. He then places a smooth metal cap on top of the trimmed thighbone and a metal shell into the hip socket. The two metal components move together allowing patients to be more stable and more active.
“Outcomes are as good or better than traditional total hip replacement in appropriate patients, and allow greater return to activities, with fewer complications and better options for the future,” Dr. Brooks stated.
Dr. Brooks is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association. In 2019-2020, he was recognized on the Best Doctors in America List.
Dr. Brooks is seeing new patients at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, 1000 36th Street in Vero Beach. Patients may schedule in-person or virtual appointments with Dr. Brooks by calling 772.794.1444.
