Cleveland Clinic, Indian River Medical Center and Martin Health System officials announced the addition of Indian River Medical Center (IRMC) and Martin Health System as full members of the Cleveland Clinic health system. Now, the full affiliation will be signified by the following names in multiple locations in Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie counties:

Indian River Medical Center will be Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital (CCIRH)

The three hospitals collectively in the Martin Health System will be Cleveland Clinic Martin Health (CCMH)
• Martin Medical Center (in Stuart, FL) – Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital
• Martin Hospital South (in Stuart, FL) – Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital
• Tradition Medical Center (in Port St. Lucie, FL) – Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital

However, beyond nomenclature, officials celebrated the blend of history with innovation. CCIRH and CCMH, well respected institutions with nearly acentury of health care traditions, are the first regional hospitals to join the Cleveland Clinic Florida Region. Patients will continue to visit with their physicians at current locations, but now local experts are backed by a team of colleagues from a renowned academic medical system.

“A defining moment was recognizing the immense pride each organization had in its history of accomplishment. It embodied our culture of integration. As we share best practices, we learn from each other and that adds to the quality of health care delivery for Southeast Florida residents,” said Wael Barsoum, M.D., CEO and President, Cleveland Clinic Florida Region.

Gregory Rosencrance, M.D., FACP, President, Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital echoed those sentiments. “Aligning with specialists and subspecialists from a world leader in clinical outcomes, patient care experiences and innovative research puts the Treasure Coast at the forefront of advanced medicine as health care continues to evolve,” he said. “This integration with Cleveland Clinic will be instrumental in developing enhanced clinical programs for our patients.”

Cleveland Clinic includes a main campus, 11 regional hospitals, more than 150 northern Ohio outpatient locations anda multiple site presence in Florida, Las Vegas, Nevada, Toronto, Canada, Abu Dhabi, UAE and London, England. During 2017 patients were treated from every state and 185 countries.

Tom Mihaljevic, M.D., Cleveland Clinic CEO and President said, “We are excited to extend access to Cleveland Clinic’s culture of patient care here in Florida. We believe patients, caregivers, organizations and communities will benefit from a team of 60,000 caregivers strong.”

“Simply stated, we will save lives we could not have previously hoped to do,” said Robert Lord, President, Cleveland Clinic Martin Health. “Providing access to the vast knowledge and innovative technology of one of the largest academic medical centers in the nation is the perfect opportunity to elevate the health and well-being of all who reside on our Treasure Coast,” he concluded.

Hospital leaders celebrated with clinical and employee staff members to launch a vision of health care delivery from the expanded Cleveland Clinic family at events in Port St. Lucie and Vero Beach last month.
