Delray Medical Center has experienced a landmark year filled with a number of milestone achievements, as well as several technological advances. Overall, these high points are a testament to the hospitals dedication to providing quality healthcare to the South Florida community.
For the third year in a row, Delray Medical Center was recognized as one of Americas 50 Best Hospitals by HealthGrades, a leading independent healthcare ratings company, on February 24, 2009. A well deserved acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment of the hospitals physicians and staff, this ranking places Delray Medical Center in the top one percent of all hospitals in the nation for quality outcomes.
Delray Medical Center continues to go the extra mile to create a safer environment for its patients and HealthGrades helps to recognize this. According to the 2009 HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence study, patients at top-performing hospitals were 43 percent less likely to experience a medical error as compared to the poorest-performing hospitals.
In addition to HealthGrades, Delray Medical Center was also honored to receive the American Heart Association/American Stroke Associations Get With The GuidelinesSM (GWTG) GOLD Achievement Award for achievement in coronary artery disease, stroke and/or heart failure treatment. Delray Medical Centers participation in the GWTG program helps ensure that our team continues to care for cardiac and stroke patients following some of the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations.
The hospitals Cardiac Surgery Program was awarded the highest national ranking three stars from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Placing Delray Medical Center among the top programs in the nation, only 15 percent of all hospitals nationwide received this years STS three-star rating the highest category of quality of cardiac surgery.
In addition to these significant recognitions, Delray Medical Center proudly installed several new pieces of modern equipment. This cutting-edge technology was designed to provide patients with some of the fastest, safest and most effective medical technology available without having to leave South Florida.
In August, we announced the installation of the Somatom Definition AS 64-slice configuration CT system. The Somatom Definition adapts to virtually any patient, as well as for the users space requirements, and is designed to enhance patient safety.
Delray Medical Center also recently enhanced its MRI services with the ultra-wide 3-T MAGNETOM Verio MRI from Siemens Medical Solutions. Designed to help the hospitals mobility impaired patients, the MAGNETOM Verio allows Delray Medical Center to provide its imaging patients with both outstanding diagnostic capabilities, as well as enhanced patient comfort.
Finally, Delray Medical Center is especially pleased to announce its newest program, which is designed to help patients control diabetes and live longer and healthier lives. The program, which began September 2009, is an outpatient medical nutrition therapy course with an emphasis on diabetes. The program allows the hospitals team of doctors, nurses, dieticians and staff to take a multidisciplinary approach to diabetes through treatment, education and lifestyle management. Participating patients may experience reduced complications normally associated with their eyes, kidneys, heart and feet.
