Health care changes on a seemingly daily basis. New technologies are introduced, improved methods of care are created and scientific advances help battle disease.
Keeping up with that change is not easy. But thanks to a donation of $1 million by Howard and Elaine Cook of Palm City, Martin Memorial will have additional resources to advance professional nursing practice for cardiac care.
Howard and Elaine Cook of Palm City recently donated $1 million to Martin Memorial Health Systems, establishing the Howard and Elaine Cook Cardiac Nursing Fund.
The Howard and Elaine Cook Cardiac Nursing Fund is an endowment that will provide education and clinical advancement of nursing practices for cardiac nurses at the Frances Langford Heart Center, scheduled to open in August 2006.
The Cooks know from personal experience the importance of quality cardiac care. So when they visited Martin Memorials new heart center and listened to a presentation by Michael Carmichael, M.D., founder of the Ocala Heart Institute and a partner with Martin Memorial, they were committed to helping the program.
“There is a tremendous need for well-qualified nurses,” Howard Cook said. “We decided thats what we wanted to do was help fulfill that need. We wanted to be a part of this hospital and this heart center.”
