As a previous Chief Financial Officer with Healthcare Corporation of America, Elizabeth Izquierdo brings years of financial expertise to her new position. Elizabeth has been observing HealthSouth since 2004 when Jay Grinney became President and Chief Executive of HealthSouth Corporation, based in Birmingham, Alabama. Under Grinneys leadership the positive changes have included a restructuring of HealthSouth by taking the company back to its core line of business which is inpatient rehabilitation. This is the heart of HealthSouth and where life changing care occurs.
Since arriving at the hospital, Elizabeth has seen first hand the dedication and hard work of the employees and has come to understand fully the distinct difference between the level of care given at an Inpatient Rehab Facility (IRF) and a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). It is now Elizabeths mission to bring this message to the community, physicians and others in the healthcare field who may have been unaware of the intensity of therapy, physician and nursing oversight and most importantly the multidisciplinary team approach each patient at HealthSouth receives. Aggressive rehabilitation can make a difference in how quickly a patient is able to return home and get back to the quality of life they deserve following an illness or injury.
In addition, HealthSouth is currently taking the lead in bringing awareness to the “75% Rule”, an unjust Medicare law that if unchanged will limit patient access to rehabilitation care. HealthSouths grassroots effort to educate our Senators and Representatives has made a huge impact, and the hope is that Congress will legislate the positive change needed so no one will be denied the care they deserve.
Elizabeth is excited to become a part of HealthSouths goal to ensure each patient receives the best possible care in the most appropriate setting.
