Edmara Nieves, M.D., is an associate medical director in the Emergency Department at Broward Health Medical Center, where she focuses on caring for patients in the Level 1 Trauma Center.

When Dr. Nieves was a child, her mother was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome and that greatly influenced her interest in medicine. While going to the hospital for her mother’s frequent appointments, Dr. Nieves became fascinated by the collaborative environment of physicians from different specialties.

“Using science and medical knowledge to heal and improve a patient’s quality of life is a daily rewarding experience,” she said.

Dr. Nieves earned her medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and is a certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
