Michael Estreicher, M.D., FACEP, Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Memorial Hospital Pembroke, has spent more than a decade leading emergency care teams with a calm, patient-focused approach. Called to emergency medicine by the opportunity to help people during life’s most critical moments, he says leadership and service now fuel much of his passion for the field.

Beyond the emergency department, Dr. Estreicher co-founded Lalumwe, a nonprofit organization focused on bringing clean water, food security and healthcare to rural communities in Africa. Last year, his team donated portable ultrasound devices and trained healthcare workers in Zambia. Those efforts later helped save the life of a woman experiencing complications during childbirth.

“Empowering others to provide outstanding care creates a ripple effect far beyond any one patient encounter,” Dr. Estreicher said. Whether mentoring residents, teaching healthcare workers abroad or leading by example for his children, creating lasting impact motivates him.
