What once was an empty lot with only one small building is becoming a much needed affordable housing complex for seniors and additional funding for a local non-profit entity through the efforts of South Dade Community Development, Inc.
Community Health Foundation, Inc. (CHF), a non-profit (501c3), owned the property located in South Miami-Dade County, has considered selling the land. The plan was to utilize the funds to expand their ability to help Community Health of South Dade, Inc. (CHI) and other entities that provide healthcare services to the uninsured and underinsured. The sale of the land would result in approximately $450,000. But via a special arrangement with the South Dade Community Development, Inc, an Affordable Senior Housing Complex will be built and the foundation will net approximately $1,000,000, a 220% increase!! These funds will allow the foundation to expand its efforts in the community and assist CHI and other with healthcare services for the community and particularly the uninsured and underinsured residents. The Affordable Senior Housing Complex, to be known as, The Village at Southland, will be located in South Miami Dade County near the Southland Mall. The Village will be a 99-unit Independent Senior Housing Complex offering community living in a safe, friendly environment with the added amenities of a community center, a pool, an educational center, transportation, a health club, and healthcare services coordination, including prescription delivery, appointment scheduling, and wellness and health classes. The complex will be comprised of three differently sized condominium units to meet the various needs of the community. And the housing units are affordably priced and ideal for retiree or “empty-nesters” that no longer want or need a house with all of the upkeep and burdens of homeownership and would prefer a community setting among their peers.
