The board will provide leadership for carrying out the organization’s mission of supporting the more than half a million Floridians living with epilepsy

 July 25, 2022 – Epilepsy Alliance Florida today announced its 2022-2025 board of directors, effective for the term beginning July 1, 2022. The organization welcomed two new board members to its roster, as well as approved its slate of officers for the three-year term.

The new board members are: Susan Nelson, MD, medical director of Physician Health Centers, which serves all of Miami-Dade and northern Monroe and southern Broward counties; and Katia M. Philippeaux, senior management analyst at the Office of the City Manager for the City of North Miami. The newly-elected officers for the 14-member board are: State Representative Nicholas X. Duran, chair, Primavera Health; Beth Alcalde, vice chair, Akerman; Adam Adache, secretary, Cavache Properties, Adache Real Estate, Adache Group Architects, and Cavache, Inc.; Kevin Feig, treasurer, Foreign Parts Distributors, Inc.; and Patricia Dean, immediate past chair, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

“I’m honored to present our 2022-2025 board of directors,” said Karen Basha-Egozi, President and CEO of Epilepsy Alliance Florida. “This board exudes a wealth of experience and passion. I look forward to working with them in service to and benefit of the more than half a million Floridians living with epilepsy.”

The Epilepsy Alliance Florida board of directors is comprised of individuals from a cross-section of the state of Florida, including persons affected by epilepsy. It is the responsibility of the board to provide leadership for carrying out the organization’s mission of supporting Floridians impacted by epilepsy by confronting the spectrum of challenges created by seizures.

“It’s an honor to serve Epilepsy Alliance Florida, an organization that has been committed to the epilepsy community of Florida for more than 50 years,” said Epilepsy Alliance Florida Chair Nicholas X. Duran. “I’m eager to work side-by-side with the board, to leverage our collective talents to strengthen services for those in our local communities and across the state who are living with this condition.” Duran helped spearhead the Care for Students with Epilepsy or Seizure Disorder law recently passed in Florida that will create a seizure action plan in public schools for students who live with seizures.

The remaining Epilepsy Alliance Florida board members include: Steve Feig, Foreign Parts Distributors, Inc.; Bryan Filson; Carlos J. Gimenez; Hind Kettani, MD, Premier Neurology Center; State Representative Daniel Perez; Manuel B. Torres, MD, Baptist Health Primary Care; and Tarek Zakaria, MD, Memorial Healthcare System.
