The new building for the Florida International University (FIU) College of Nursing & Health Sciences (CNHS) was recently “Topped Off” – a construction milestone marking the moment the final piece of concrete is poured to complete the roof a new building. The CNHS family joined Skanska Construction representatives and workers in celebrating the occasion, which came less than 10 months after construction began in April 2008. Dr. Divina Grossman, Dean of the College and Sam Doggart, Vice President of Skanska addressed the crowd at a commemorative BBQ lunch. The ceremony was accentuated by a time-honored tradition of placing an American Flag and tree atop the roof the day the building is topped off.
The new CNHS Building on FIUs University Park Campus topped off and more than halfway toward completion as of February 25, 2009.
The two-building, 103,000-sq. ft. structure, which will become the new home of the FIU CNHS when it opens in December 2009, will also become the gateway to the Universitys highly anticipated Academic Health Sciences Complex, future home of the new College of Medicine.
