Robert J. Stilley, chairman of the Jupiter Medical Center Board of Trustees, was named Trustee of the Year by the Florida Hospital Association during the organization’s annual Celebration of Achievement in Quality and Service Awards.
The awards program, which took place on Thursday, Oct. 4, in Orlando, recognizes caregivers, hospital trustees and hospitals around the state for notable achievement in improving quality and patient safety, as well as for making significant impacts on their local communities, engaging hospital staff, transforming care delivery, and increasing efficiency.
“We are very proud of Bob—he’s truly deserving of this recognition,” said Don McKenna, president and chief executive officer of Jupiter Medical Center. “Bob’s stewardship of the delivery of high-quality care has made a significant impact on Jupiter Medical Center and the communities we serve, and we’re very fortunate to have him as our chairman.”
As president and CEO of HeartCare Imaging, Inc., and with more than 30 years of working in diagnostic imaging, Stilley’s background as a leader and health care entrepreneur is especially valued. A member of the hospital’s Board of Trustees since 2014, Stilley became chairman in 2017. He also is a member of the board’s Executive, Compensation, Finance, Governance and Planning committees.
“Bob has demonstrated a strong commitment to Jupiter Medical Center and the community it serves,” said Bruce Rueben, president of the Florida Hospital Association. “Through his thoughtful leadership, which is grounded in his business experience in the health care industry, Bob is contributing insight and expertise to help the medical center provide outstanding health care for all of its patients.”
Under Stilley’s leadership, Jupiter Medical Center has garnered state and national recognition from CareChex, a respected watchdog of hospital quality. The hospital is in the top 10 percent nationally for care of GI hemorrhage, heart failure, hip fracture and pulmonary disease; a top 100 hospital for hip fracture and GI hemorrhage; and among the top 10 percent in Florida for overall excellence.
In addition, Stilley has led the not-for-profit through a significant period of progress and transition. The hospital’s new open-heart program will open in early 2019, along with a new comprehensive stroke program and pediatric emergency room. Construction has just begun on the Anderson Family Cancer Institute, which will be the flagship center for integrated cancer services in the region. Plans have just been completed for a new patient tower to include a Level 2 NICU. Stilley also led the search for a new CEO of Jupiter Medical Center, which ultimately concluded with McKenna being selected for the position in late 2017.
Stilley is also working to build an innovative partnership with Florida Atlantic University. As a member of both the hospital and university boards, he envisions the two organizations working together on breakthrough clinical research.
A graduate of the University of Florida, Stilley and his wife State Representative MaryLynn Magar have one daughter.
