JoAnne Youngblut, PhD, RN, FAAN, a nursing professor at Florida International University’s (FIU) Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences and a nationally recognized researcher, was named the Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Endowed Chair in Prevention and Family Health. The announcement was made by NWCNHS Dean Ora Strickland, who noted it is the first endowed chair in the College’s history.Dr. Youngblut is a nationally renowned nurse researcher who is developing a growing body of work on how child critical illness and death affect the health of family members, the quality of family relationships, and the family as a whole.
Dr. Youngblut, whose career and leadership in nursing spans nearly 30 years and numerous published articles, has served as a member of the National Institutes of Health’s research grant review panels in Nursing and Related Clinical Research and Minority Biomedical Research Support for the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, on the governing board of the Southern Nursing Research Society, and on the board of directors at Miami Children’s Hospital. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Nurses. Dr. Youngblut earned her PhD in Clinical Nursing Research and her Master of Science in Parent-Child Nursing from the University of Michigan; and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
