In 1988, Florida National College (FNC) was founded after putting together all the dreams of one Cuban immigrant, Jose Regueiro, who came to the United States with a lot of hopes and dreams. Upon his arrival, he had the multiple inconvenience of not only having to adapt himself to the U.S. economy, but to its social life system as well. These struggles that he had to endure not only made him strong in his beliefs and desires, but they also made him realize that he needed to find a way to help others that came from other countries so that they would not have to struggle as much as he did. He realized that in order to succeed in the US and be able to integrate themselves to the American society, immigrants needed some type of preparations. He studied multiples options and concluded that the best way to introduce a new immigrant to the American life style and help him to succeed is by providing him with two important tools: the ability to communicate with others and the opportunity to learn a career. Regueiro concluded that the best way to provide these two important tools to an immigrant were by providing the immigrant with an education and the place where the education is delivered: a school.

FNC was initially created as an institution where students could receive special training to become Dental Lab Technician and basic knowledge to communicate with others. With the passing of time, Regueiro’s idea from a little seed became a big, blooming tree. FNC is now a senior college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS-COC), and the Commissions for Independent Education (CIE), through the Department of Education. Currently, FNC has three Campuses: the Main Campus and Training Center are both located in Hialeah, and the South Campus is located in the Kendall area.

FNC offers a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Certificates, Diplomas, Associate of Arts and Associate of Science Degrees in different area such as Business Administration, Computer, and Allied Health. FNC also offers English as a Second Language course. In the Allied Health area, FNC prepares students giving them the skills necessary to fulfill the demand of an entry level position in the following areas: Medical Assistant Tech, Dental Lab. and Dental Lab Assistant, Practical Nursing, Radiology Technologist, Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Medical Coding and Billing Specialist, Clinic Echocardiography, Phlebotomy, just to name a few.

The administration is working on expanding the Allied Health Division in 2008, opening new programs such as Respiratory Care and Medical Information Management. The college will also offer MRI and CT Scan as continuing education courses. FNC is also proud of its graduates’ success on the Certification exam to obtain their licenses, with a passing rate of 89 %, and employers are pleased with our graduates’ performance. FNC, also through the Allied Health Division, provides community services participating at different health fairs and volunteering with the Health Department of Miami Dade County.
