September 4, 2019 – One in seven residents and one in five children in Florida struggle with hunger according to Feeding America. They are food insecure which means they do not know where their next week of meals will come from. In Broward County that represents 15 percent of the population. 
In recognition of National Hunger Month in September, Holy Cross Hospital will award $25,000 in John Johnson Food Security Grants to 501(c)(3) organizations in Broward County with innovative programs that help reduce the risk of food insecurity among residents. Applications are now available at Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.
This is the sixth consecutive year the grants will be awarded, which are named in honor of Holy Cross Hospital CEO and President Emeritus John C. Johnson who strongly believes every man, woman and child deserved the right to access a sufficent food supply. 
“Each year we feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to help these organizations make a transformational impact on our residents,” said Sister Rita Levasseur, the non-profit hospital’s vice president of mission and values. “Mr. Johnson’s unrelenting passion for ending food insecurity in our community comes to life through these programs.”
