October 26, 2022– In an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse, HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital will be hosting the “Crush the Crisis” national opioid take back day this Saturday, October 29, 2022.  From 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. the community is encouraged to safely dispose of their unused or expired medications at the main entrance of the hospital. Lawnwood is partnering with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office to raise awareness about the issue of drug overdose deaths across the country and in our communities.

“As a leading healthcare provider in Ft. Pierce, we believe it is vital to educate the community about this important issue and offer a safe way to dispose of medications, said Dr. Michael Bakerman, chief medical officer of Lawnwood Hospital. We are our proud to partner with local law enforcement to make a difference in our community by working together to get prescription drugs off our streets.”

During the event, deputies will be collecting tablets or capsules, patches, ointments, lotions, or drops, liquid medications in leak-proof containers, vape cartridges without batteries and pet medications. Needles, syringes, lancets or liquids will not be accepted.

Lawnwood Hospital is participating as part of HCA Healthcare’s fourth annual national “Crush the Crisis” opioid take back day. Last year, 96 HCA Healthcare facilities in 17 states collected 15,566 pounds of unused and expired prescription medications at “Crush the Crisis” events across the nation. The event coincides with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Lawnwood Hospital is located at 1700 S. 23rd Street, Fort Pierce, Fl. For more information visit: https://www.hcafloridahealthcare.com/locations/lawnwood-hospital/calendar/.
