December 13, 2022 – HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital has named Michael Barbera, MSN, RN, as its Chief Operating Officer (COO.) As the COO, Barbera will be responsible for key ancillary, support and clinical departments.

With his experience, enthusiasm and track record of accomplishment, I am confident that his leadership and support will have a very positive impact on our team and the patients we serve. We look forward to welcoming him here this month” said St. Lucie CEO Jay Finnegan.

Barbera comes to St. Lucie Hospital after serving as Vice President of Operations at HCA Florida Palms West Hospital, in Loxahatchee, where among his many accomplishments, he created a limb revascularization service line, served as Vascular Service Line Champion, and oversaw the accreditation of the hospital as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.

He has more than 21 years of experience in healthcare, including interim Chief Nursing Officer, Director of Critical Care Services, interim Director of Emergency Services, and House Supervisor.

Barbera is a United States Air Force Veteran and prior to his career in healthcare, he was a firefighter/ paramedic, including a tour in Iraq as a combat firefighter/paramedic.

He has a master’s degree in Nursing Leadership and Management and a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Western Governors University. He is also a graduate of HCA’s Executive Development program, where he was selected by his peers as the Outstanding Associate of the Cohort.

Barbera will begin his position at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital on December 15.
