The Health Care District of Palm Beach County will honor Holly Hoover, RN, the Health Care District’s School Nurse at Jupiter Elementary School, for her critical role in assessing the need for a Jupiter Elementary School first-grade student to receive urgent follow-up care. Nurse Holly’s assessment led to the discovery of a potentially life-threatening condition that required immediate treatment and hospitalization.“Basically, Nurse Holly saved our daughter’s life,” said Cindy Sayegh, the mother of seven-year-old Ava Sayegh told the Health Care District Board of Commissioners at its public meeting in March of this year. “My daughter went to the School Nurse to complain of a sore throat. Nurse Holly checked her symptoms. She went to take her temperature and noticed she could not close her mouth on the thermometer. She went on to check her lungs and noticed that she did not have any sound in her right lung.”
Mrs. Sayegh says that a chest X-ray revealed Ava had a collapsed lung and a large cyst that required immediate surgery. Mrs. Sayegh says Ava, who was hospitalized for 11 days, is back at school and is doing well.
