South Florida Babies Need Your Help by September 29

September 18, 2019 – Join the Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade in giving back to babies in need through the Miami Diaper Bank’s 2 million diaper challenge.  The Miami Diaper Bank needs the communities support to reach their goal of 2,000,000 diapers donated by September 29th, 2019.

With every donation made, the Miami Diaper Bank will purchase discounted diapers for low-income families affected by Diaper Need who are being served by the Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD).  HSCMD is a community-based non-profit organization serving as Miami-Dade County’s prenatal and infant care coalition.

There will be over 20 drop-off sites located throughout Miami-Dade County, one of them being at the HSCMD office.  Donors can contact info@miamidiaperbank.com to coordinate the best drop-off location. The community also has the option to donate through the Miami Diaper Bank’s Amazon Wishlist, or by donating online at: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/hscmd.

“It’s reported that 1 in 3 American families have to choose between diapers and other basic needs like food,” said HSCMD CEO Manuel Fermin. “We are very excited to be supporting this diaper challenge in order to help low-income families afford enough clean diapers for their children.  Since diapers are not eligible for federally subsidized food stamps, the cost of diapers puts an enormous financial strain on struggling families,”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 44% of children in South Florida belong to low-income or impoverished households. Furthermore, in Miami-Dade County alone, 29% of those children are in actual poverty.

The Miami Diaper Bank is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group that supports low-income families and babies with diaper needs throughout South Florida. They collect, store and distribute free diapers and essentials to other nonprofits such as HSCMD, family service agencies and shelters in the community. Their goal is to ensure that every baby in South Florida has enough diapers to remain clean, dry and healthy.  To learn more about the challenge, visit www.miamidiaperbank.com.
