Coconut Creek resident Susan Brownell receives honor

Coconut Creek resident Susan Brownell has been named Holy Cross Hospital’s 2017-2018 Volunteer of the Year. Brownell began volunteering in June 2013 after retiring from her 38-year professional career as a Critical Care Registered Nurse at Holy Cross. She has since served over 2,000 volunteers hours at the non-profit hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

Starting off serving in several departments, including case management, quality review, and neurosurgical intensive care, Brownell is now on her third year volunteering with the bundled payments department.

“Sue lives our core values every day with her selfless service and loyalty to our team,” said Holy Cross Hospital President and CEO Patrick Taylor, M.D. “She’s dedicated, energetic, willing, and most of all, she enjoys giving back.”

Brownell’s volunteer duties include serving the bundled payments department by organizing paperwork and other clerical duties, but most importantly, she stays in-touch with patients and helps staff identify any areas of concern and address them in a timely manner. Brownell also serves as preceptor for the other volunteers by offering guidance and mentoring.

At Holy Cross in 2017, 398 volunteers shared their time and talents serving 87,960 hours in over fifty departments throughout the hospital, Holy Cross Medical Group offices, and the Holy Cross HealthPlex.
