Industry ICON Award Like No Other

The Florida Assisted Living Coalition (FALC) Industry Icon Award is presented each year to a distinguished Healthcare Hero who in some profound way helps shape the professional community by way of their professional and humanitarian effort.

 

Mary Jo Bulfin RNC, BScN, MBA, HA&P – “Joey” to all who know her – is the COO at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL. Her tenure at the hospital spans more than 30 years, beginning in 1980 as an RN in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Prior to her role as COO, Bulfin served as St. Mary’s Chief Nursing Officer from 2005 – 2011.

 

 

Ellen S. Morris, Esq. is the founding partner of Elder Law Associates PA. Her practice includes estate planning, asset protection for Medicaid qualification, probate, guardianship and litigation in guardianship, and trust and estate matters.

 

 

Ann Fonfa was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 1993. She explored alternative therapies and started a study group in New York City. From summaries of the 60 or so meetings this group held, Ann posted a website in June 1999 under the name The Annie Appleseed Project. It is now a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation serving 85,000 people monthly via the Internet.

 

 

 

 

Hector Di Carlo is a Family Medicine Physician who graduated from Indiana University. He also completed a fellowship program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard University. He has recently started his own practice in Family Medicine and also visiting elderly or disabled patients in their homes or in assisted leaving facilities. He has also been a preceptor for third and fourth year medical students at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at NOVA Southeastern University and at the Nurse Practitioner’s Program at Florida Atlantic University.

 

 

In his capacity as a funeral director and working with the Hebrew Homes-Plaza Health Network (the largest not-for-profit, non-sectarian nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Miami-Dade County), Murray has been able to help many needy people in the community by working with nursing homes, guardians and social workers providing funerals for those individuals that do not have the means to pay and also by helping people in need of assistance to get into the nursing homes.

 

 

 

Jerome Ira Solkoff is a prominent attorney with more than 30 years in practice and a national expert in the field of elder law. He is an inaugural member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and is Certified as an Elder Law Specialist by both the National Elder Law Foundation and The Florida Bar. Solkoff co-founded the Elder Law Section of The Florida Bar and served as its Chair (1992-93) and has served on its Board of Directors and Committees.
