One simple word represents the key to positive and successful physician relations Honesty. At North Shore Medical Center FMC Campus, I work to ensure the highest level of honesty and transparency is used when working with our physicians. It is of the utmost importance to be honest, no matter whom you are dealing with or the situation.
As the Chief Administrative Officer, my schedule can get hectic, but I always make sure I make time for my physicians. It is important I am available to them day or night through the hospital operator or my personal cell phone.
Communication is key. At FMC Campus we pride ourselves on having open lines of communication for our physicians. It is critical that the physician is communicated with in a timely manner, when they have an issue or concern.
A physicians time is very valuable. While I make rounds on the hospital floors several times I day, I also make it appoint to visit the physicians in their office on their time.
Appreciation is also key. Whenever we have the opportunity, we honor our physicians for their service and dedication. A few examples are through physician luncheons and dinners or banners throughout the campus. We also make it appoint to celebrate Hospital Week each year with a nice event including fun contests such as “FMC Idol,” which a physician won second place in last year!
We strive to recognize our physicians on a continuous basis.
I have been blessed to work with some of the most dedicated and caring physicians in South Florida who have been part of our hospital and our community for years. In terms of hospital / physician relations, it is important that when bringing a new doctor on, we look at the needs of the community especially since we are a community hospital. A physician should be a good fit for the community and meet its needs.
