June 14, 2022 – Board-certified neurosurgeon Julie Pilitsis, M.D., joins Marcus Neuroscience Institute, established at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, a part of Baptist Health. Dr. Pilitsis specializes in functional neurosurgery, Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, spasticity and chronic pain.

“I’m delighted that Dr. Pilitsis has joined Marcus Neuroscience Institute,” said Frank Vrionis, M.D., Institute director at Marcus Neuroscience Institute. “She is fellowship trained in functional neurosurgery and has been a leader nationally and internationally in advocating for patients, research and education for patients with Parkinson’s disease and chronic pain. She will make a wonderful addition to our team and will greatly benefit our patients.”

Dr. Pilitsis joins Marcus Neuroscience Institute from Florida Atlantic University, where she serves as the vice president for Medical Affairs and the dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. She previously was division chief of Functional Neurosurgery and chair and professor of the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY.

She is one of only three neurosurgeons to serve as dean and the only neurosurgeon to do so outside an institution where they were previously chair. She is also the first ever female neurosurgeon dean. She has held multiple national leadership roles and is a member of many professional neurosurgery organizations, including the North American Neuromodulation society, where she is president elect and the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, where she serves as treasurer.

Dr. Pilitsis earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College. She then completed a neurosurgery residency at Wayne State University and a functional neurosurgery fellowship at Rush University Medical Center. She also holds a Ph.D. in physiology from Wayne State University and MBA from Fayetteville State University.

She will see patients at Boca Raton Regional Hospital at 800 Meadows Road in Boca Raton.
