Approval from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
granted both programs Initial Accreditation
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) recently announced the initial accreditation of two residency programs in Anesthesiology and Diagnostic Radiology.
The ACGME granted the hospital approval to train 16 medical residents in Diagnostic Radiology effective 1/26/2017 and 12 medical residents in Anesthesiology effective 7/1/2017. Residents in the Anesthesiology program rotate at Larkin Health System’s South Miami and Hialeah (Palm Springs Campus) hospitals while residents in the Diagnostic Radiology program rotate at six Larkin Imaging Center locations throughout Miami-Dade County in addition to rotations at the health system’s hospitals.
LCH is the third largest Statutory Teaching Hospital in Florida and the largest teaching hospital for osteopathic physicians (D.O.) in the United States, offering the largest number of training programs (32 different specialties in total). LCH sponsors an allopathic residency (M.D.) program in Psychiatry. In addition, LCH also has a School of Nursing, a College of Pharmacy, and a Masters of Biomedical Sciences Program, and has been approved to open a Charter Middle School for Health Sciences in Fall 2018. The expansion of graduate medical education programs at LCH continues to demonstrate the hospital’s commitment to train the next generation of physicians to serve the needs of the citizens of Florida.
