Rebecca Phillips, senior patient care leader for patient care professional services at Martin Health, philanthropist David Smythe and Mark Robitaille, president and CEO for Martin Health, prepare to walk the newly designated Martin Fitness Trail.
Martin Health System and the city of Stuart recently dedicated the Martin Fitness Trail, designed to encourage individuals to exercise and enhance their health.

The collaboration between Martin Health and the city provides a walking path that offers distances of one mile and 1.5 miles. The trail is part of Martin Health’s “mLife” program that offers tools, information and resources to help Martin Health associates and volunteers attain optimal health.

Bright green signs indicate the direction of the walking trail, which winds along Osceola Street from S.E. Balboa Ave. to S.E. Florida Ave., part of S.E. Ocean Blvd. and Georgia Ave., and around the perimeter of Memorial Park. That makes it convenient for Martin Health associates, employees with the city or businesses downtown to take advantage of the trail.

The Martin Fitness Trail was funded by the David L. Smythe Fund. A grateful patient at Martin Health System, David Smythe has provided more than $4.5 million in gifts to the Martin Health Foundation since 2008. Funds from those gifts have helped develop programs for maternal-child, pediatric and wound care services, as well as a number of projects within the health system.
