Testing can help detect effectiveness of vaccine and determine assumed current immunity

January 29 2021 –  MD NOW® Urgent Care, the largest urgent care provider in Florida, is offering COVID-19 antibody testing at all of its locations.

Through a blood sample, the antibody test helps patients identify if they may have been exposed to and recovered from COVID-19. For those who have recently received the COVID-19 vaccine, the test would help verify if it worked and if they have developed neutralizing antibodies.

“There are many benefits to getting tested for COVID-19 antibodies,” said Dr. Jeffrey Collins, MD Now’s Chief Medical Officer.  “Besides helping patients determine if they have recently had COVID-19, now those who have been vaccinated can see if they have antibody protection. It also helps identify candidates for plasma donation.”

MD Now has partnered with one of the nation’s top CLIA-certified labs to provide what is considered the gold standard for immunity testing. The test will determine the presence of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies, which may mean a person has assumed immunity to COVID-19.

Since antibodies may decrease over time, people previously infected with COVID-19 are encouraged to take the test to reveal the level of antibody protection in their system.  Due to the possibility of diminishing antibodies, the CDC recommends that people who have been previously diagnosed with COVID-19 still get vaccinated.

In addition to antibody testing, MD Now’s physician-led services include:
COVID-19 testing
Flu shots and other vaccinations
