Hurricane Charley tore through Florida, destroying homes and property. Several hospitals suffered significant damage and were left with almost no resources to meet the unrelenting healthcare needs of their patients.
Frank V. Sacco, Chief Executive Officer, Memorial Healthcare System, takes a moment to talk to nurses before they were dispatched to Cape Coral Hospital to help victims of Hurricane Charley.
Aware of the devastation, hospital officials and staff at Memorial Healthcare System quickly joined the relief efforts. Three teams with a total of 50 volunteered medical personnel and hospital engineers were assembled over the weekend and sent to Arcadia and Cape Coral.
The teams had a mission to help tend to the sick and help relieve hospital staffs who were dealing with their own loss of homes and personal property. The Healthcare System also dispatched the Joe DiMaggio Childrens Hospital Mobile Health Unit, which is equipped and staffed similar to a small clinic.
“The outpouring of support from our staff has been truly remarkable, and their spirit of volunteerism is inspiring,” said Frank V. Sacco, Chief Executive Officer, Memorial Healthcare System. “Our hearts and prayers are with those who experienced tremendous loss.”
