Jackie Benitez has been described by her superiors as a “transformational nurse leader” that has made significant improvements in interdisciplinary communication and teamwork in the past year. That’s music to the ears of Benitez, who has made those two areas a focus of her efforts as director of nursing. “I’m passionate about bringing people together to work collaboratively and deliver the safest, highest quality, patient-centered care. One way we’re doing this is by working together to identify and overcome workflow barriers for staff,” she said.
A Memorial Healthcare System employee for more than 25 years, Benitez began as a home health aide and has held positions as a patient care assistant, healthcare unit secretary, registered nurse, clinical nurse manager, nurse manager, and now director. She says the journey has enabled her to understand each of those roles, its workflow, processes, and operations.
“25 years in, my heartbeat is still nursing, and my motivation and passion keeps me going.”
