Miami Dade College (MDC) Medical Center Campus professor of midwifery Diann S. Gregory received the Henry H. Raattama, Jr. Endowed Teaching Chair (2004-2006), her third Endowed Teaching Chair at the college. She joined MDC in 1988.
Prof. Gregory holds a B.S. from Madonna University in Livonia, MI, a M.S. from Florida International University, and a Nurse-Midwifery Certificate from the Frontier School of Nurse Midwifery and Family Nursing in KY. She is a Viet Nam veteran.
In the past three years, with the help of two Learning Innovations grants, Prof. Gregory has developed a virtual learning program that uses interactive data and classroom activities to teach students how to manage their own clinical practices. She presented her groundbreaking learning model and associated software at two national conferences and is currently working with two faculty members at MDC and with others at three universities across the county to develop their own virtual practice programs.
This past year, Prof. Gregory received a $200,000 grant from the Ounce of Prevention of Florida, to train community doulas (labor and postpartum support individuals). She works in Service Learning projects alongside her students to assist pregnant adolescents through the COPE centers.
