April 26, 2021 – Starting May 1, and lasting all month long, miracles will be happening at Costco but the miracles won’t be in the store, they’ll be in the care provided to children at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
Since 1988, Costco employees and members have donated more than $43 million for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals as part of their May is for Miracles Campaign.
Costco invites every shopper to make a simple donation at the register. All funds raised stay local to benefit Golisano which became a Children’s Miracle Network partner hospital last year.
Every dollar collected helps provide life-saving care to sick and injured children in the five county area of Southwest Florida.
“The incredible part of this campaign is that we can tell Costco employees and all the customers where the money goes – it goes right to the kids being treated every day at Golisano. The money donated funds the most critical needs of our growing children’s hospital, including pediatric neurosurgery and ophthalmology – two of our newest program expansions,” said Toni Primeaux, Development Director for Golisano and Children’s Miracle Network. “We get so excited about this campaign because Costco, its associates and its generous customers really make a tremendous impact in funding.
This campaign helps to ensure Golisano can deliver life-saving patient care to all, especially the tiniest patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Specialized treatment in our NICU helps kids like Vincent, who was born at 24 weeks weighing just 1 pound and 4 ounces. Vincent spent 164 days (about 5 months) in the NICU at Golisano Children’s Hospital overcoming brain bleeds, a heart defect, stage 3 ROP (retrolental fibroplasia), hernias, a g-tube, and several surgeries. This year Vincent turned 4-years old. While he still has a few challenges, he is a happy, curious, healthy, active, sweet little boy.
"What kept me strong during our NICU stay was the incredible care we received,” said Ashley Olszewski, Vincent’s mom. “Our care team took the time to explain what was happening; they were there on our darkest days, and were our biggest cheerleaders on our successes."
Thanks to the generosity of the community last year, the three area Costcos in Fort Myers, Estero and Naples raised more than $139,000. Costco matches a portion of every donation.
